Grief is a natural human process an should be both allowed and encouraged. The person will go through stages of numbness, disbelief, anger, sadness, and finally acceptance. To make sure that they process healthily through the stages, you can get some counseling. Alternatively, look up works of researchers in the field like Kubler Ross's On Death and Dying, or Rando's stages of grief.
