User's Question

team lead

Hi, I am in a software company, I have been working here for 5 years; I have been appreciated by my seniors, managers and other company heads many a times, for my work quality and efforts.

Now I am the team lead in a project, but by team workers do not listen to me. They take me lightly, and never acknowledge my instructions. Now I am responsible to answer to the customer, my delivery managers etc. and everybody else. I feel very pressurized; I also feel frustrated, but I find unable to exert myself on others. What can I do to improve my situation? How can I work with confidence in this situation?

Dear user, welcome to ewellness expert website.

I can understand your frustration and disappointment you feel as a result the underestimation of your subordinate team members.

I do believe that you should be assertive with your team, which means that you should convey a strict and clear message to them that the work is the top priority and should be fulfilled on the most appropriate way.

I strongly recommend you to try the following steps:

  • Try to demonstrate confident personal characteristics through putting clear boundaries to follow without any ignorance.
  • Try to delegate tasks to certain person with a clear description, e.g. time, quality and effectiveness. Convey clear administrative instructions that you will use your responsibilities to punish anybody who is not committed to the work and company rules and regulations.
  • Try to be a figure model for your team in your work proficiency, communication commitments.
  • Try your best to be socially active with the team in their social occasions. You should demonstrate respect for all the teams, reinforce them for their achievements.
  • Don’t demonstrate any type of hesitation or weaknesses from taking concrete and necessary decision when needed.
  • Lastly, try to work on your negative attitude toward yourself and don’t underestimate your capabilities and strong points that helped you to achieve and reach this professional career.
  • If you need further instructions and intervention you can consult an online therapist for help. Take Care
