Hey, I guess women are not able to stand up for themselves because they don't feel empowered in this patriarchal society. I understand your confusion because many people are misunderstanding this right now. There is a difference between equity and equality. Equality is about treating everyone in the same manner without any discrimination. Equity is to provide all the necessary things to people according to their needs so that they all are equal in the end. So, when it comes to questioning reservations and “special treatment” of women I would say that considering the situation we have in India where women are so unsafe, it is important to provide these benefits to women so that there is equality.

We all know that it is very unsafe for women to travel alone in trains and metros at all times. This sometimes becomes a hindrance for women and stops them for travelling freely and independently, which may come in the way of their success. Women are already treated unfairly by this society so we do need that special treatment. Most men do not respect women the way they should and harass them, so until we do not get back that respect and safety, we need the reservations. In this case, we need to achieve equity since we did not get a fair start with men. We did not start from the same position. So, reservations do not portray us as weak, but it empowers us to achieve what we were always meant to achieve.

    Hello.

Hope you doing well. I think the problem lies in the upbringing of women. From childhood we are taught to be silent and obedient. We are realised that we are the second and inferior sex, which somehow leaves a mark in our senses and we continue to follow the same notion and pass it on to generations. Still so many women of our country are not allowed to get basic education, they get married at very young age and are expected to just rear the children and take care of the home. So the problem lies in the mentality and the upbringing process. From childhood we should be treated equally as boys are , should be told that we are strong and should be allowed to do every task.

But now its high time to stop sexism and women should unite and support each other. Women should take a stand for their respect and for their safety. Feminism should be encouraged not only by women but by men also. When each woman supports another, and stand for oneself and for other, this problem will come to an end.

    Hey there.

    A very valid question, indeed.

I have observed it myself as well. Women hesistate when it comes to taking stand. They talk of empowerment and justice but when it comes to fighting for it, they take their step down. Why so? It's because they are afraid of the society, they fear that the society will not accept them if they go against them.

A woman's major fight is with the male gender. In this patriarchal society, women are given the lowest regards. They are not given the important they deserve, they are considered less worthy and are not respected. This has been the trend ever since the ancient times. These habits have cultivated in us the feeling of inferiority. Somewhere or the other women have accepted their faith, they have learnt to be helpless. They don't seek help because they know no matter how much they strive to bring a change, they just can't. The society continues being what it is. You might fight against rapists, but people still commit such heinous crimes, they still rape. You can have gender equality workshops at offices but women still won't be given equal preferences as males do.

Woman don't know how to collect the energy to bring such change.

Hello there. It is such a major concern these days owing to the fact that crimes against women is increasing. But I feel that the scenario is somewhat changing these days. Women are aware if their rights against such horrendous crimes and they are actively raising their voice against it. But still, it is unfortunate to see that many women think it best to remain silent. It can be attributed mainly to those patriarchal notions prevalent. Females are taught to be quiet and obedient. So they think it best to remain silent and give in. Also the fact that if women go on and report such crimes, they will be disregarded by people around her. It is so unfortunate to see that in these era of development , the society still has those regressive mindset about women. Women need to get United and take a stand for themselves.

Hey there! I hope you are doing well.

Sadly, even after so much modernization and development, the fault is in our mentality which still seems to be out-dated.We have become adaptive to open adult websites we but cannot bear the site of a half-naked woman and do not fear in labelling her as of loose character merely due to her clothing. Women on the other hand have,I believe , given up on this culture and have decided to sit back and stop caring about it. Also, the suppression of women is not a new thing in our society.Males have always tried to bring us down, economically or emotionally.I believe they fear that we are far more superior beings from them so we might just take away their roles and do their jobs much better than them. Also, there are so mnay times when women try to raise their voice against some issue but instead they are killed, harrassed or exploited financially or sexually. It is not justified to say that they let others take advantage of them but what really happens is that the moment a girl is born in this country she is taught to be suppressed and not answer back so that becomes her nature making her porne to exploitation.

    I hope this helps.
