Can faith on religion and pious rituals keep me in good mental health?

I often hear people speaking that if I believe in God, and perform all the rituals associated in pleasing God, it will give mental satisfaction; it will give peace; it is the right way to salvation; it will give me true happiness etc etc. I just want to be in good mental health. I do not know whether religiousity is blind faith, but does it actually give peace or mental sanctity? If so, then how? What should I do to keep myself happy, and in proper mental orientation?

    For your question, does being religious or believing in religion give you satisfaction the answer is yes. Belief in religion is linked with emotions. If we focused on religious activites: how often someone prayed, went to church/masjid or read religious scriptures the correlation with happiness was nearly identical. Because people tend to have faith over their religious concept. They feel satisfied or relieved after performig religious activities. A religion offers a sense of meaning in life and one path that may lead to to a desireble life. Moreover a religion offers a greater ablity to exercise self control which is really necessarry to maintain a healthy mind. Having faith on religious activities reduces stress. When times are difficult people do turn to religion. They pray or meditate because it gives a greater satisfaction to mind. Another thing is having religion or being religious might lead to social acceptance. Studies have suggested that meditation and meditative prayer activates areas of the brain involved in regulatin emotional responses.

    Beliefs and teachings of a religion like love, kindness, harmony gives positive attitude towards life and it leads to have a happy life. Some religions give the idea to people to stay away from high risk health behaviours like smoking and having alcohol. It leads people to have a healthier life. 

    To have a balanced life you can always stay with your religion. You can performe your religious activities and have faith on what you believe. But you have to keep in mind that everything has a limitation and a control. Being over obsessed with religion may leads to some mental issues.
